Hippos aren't exactly typical in the Midwestern United States, so the birth of one is usually big news. Tillie was born into a family of farmers and playwrights. Both of her parents loved to write dramas and musicals, and nothing made them happier than when their little Tillie acted out their scripts or sang their songs. However, neither her mother nor her father considered her to be stage material, as she simply didn't seem to have enough natural grace to make it.

Tillie, on the other hand, was positive that she'd make it to the top. After all, she had seen the big women of the stage before, and every one of them was absolutely fantastic. She knew in her heart that she could be just that fantastic.

Traveling to New York, and eventually California, Tillie found reality to be a bit harder than she expected. She was constantly told that she was not the right fit for a part or that her name wasn't well known enough. No matter where she went, it seemed that she could not get a leading role. Not one to give up, however, Tillie Hippo took what she could, which were more often than not bit parts or chorus lines, and worked as a seamstress on the side. It was enough to get by.

After Danny Cat's revolution of Hollywood, things started to look much better for Tillie. Directors began to realize that she had a stage presence that automatically drew every eye towards her. Her picture on a poster was often enough to sell seats, and after the booming success that was "Free Tilly," she became a household name. Needless to say, her parents are very proud.
